The variation in facilities has made Waterford-Millford one of Kentucky's leading horse farms for import and export. Its multi-faceted operation and expansive size allows multiple quarantines to be in progress at the same time. Also, any horses that are in training or are being broken can continue their regimen while in quarantine at Waterford-Millford. The farm is setup with field gallops as well as an exercise walker to accommodate quarantined horses by individual or in groups. Since 1985, the farm has been one of the leaders in Pre-Export Quarantine (PEQ) for all ages of Thoroughbreds and other breeds. With the importance of the European yearling market, many breeders in the United States are sending select European-type yearlings to the sales at Goffs, Tattersalls and Deauville. The care and preparation these yearlings receive during their Pre-Export Quarantine period is vital to assure their full sales potential. We at Waterford-Millford are proud of the quality of care we provide for exporting breeders. Our client list reflects our reputation in sales prep and PEQ, having served prominent owners such as Her Majesty The Queen, London Thoroughbred Services, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum, and H.H. The Aga Khan. As a result of our experience with export quarantine, which is generally around thirty days, we're capable of dealing with the pressure involved to get horses in top shape in a short period of time. This makes it easy to adapt to seasonal boarders. PEQ horses are not limited to the thoroughbred breed. We have handled horses from every major and minor breed from 2000 pound draft horses to 120 pound minis. In the last 20 years this has included groups of Arab endurance horses that were ridden daily so as to be able to compete as soon as they arrived in Dubai. In the Spring of 2007 we did a PEQ for a number of horses exporting to Australia that had competed in the Rolex World Three Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park. Our long history and close working relationship with such major shipping companies as International Racehorse Transport (IRT) and Mersant International, makes us one of the primary PEQ facilities in Kentucky and as such, we do nearly all of the Australian PEQs for IRT.
